Lava Caves on Iceland

.... and a card for my friend Anna. The first two photos below were taken from the window of the mini bus on the way to the lava caves.
Here I am with the bright orange overalls, on top of a jacket, not very flattering. I was really happy I had my hiking boots on, they were very necessary on the uneven and at times slippery rocks! It was a challenging trip but I was game. The next photo shows the exit, the entrance was similar and even though they called it caving, at times it felt like potholing! We had helmets with a single light strapped on, I would have come out with concussion without this, scraping my head against the low cave ceiling many times. This was not a luxury trip with lighting, handrails, pre-installed tools or pavements. We were crawling on all fours at times! BUT wow it was fantastic and I was really proud of myself when we finally got out. I was stiff a couple of days afterwards due to the unusual exertions. The lava tubes were interesting and the last two photos show beautiful formations.

  1. Wow, these photos are amazing. I recognize the beautiful cone shaped volcano from when I visited Iceland a few years back. It IS an amazing place, but I think I would be too scared to go through the lava tubes. Brave you! Well done. I will browse the rest of your posts on Iceland...thanks for sharing!
